About Mike Dodson
I’m passionate about what I shoot and how I shoot it - I’m influenced by noir films, ghost stories, heavy music and light conversation. I’m a fan of a Dutch - or even a completely broken - angle, a strong shadow, and capturing the energy and essence of a band or an event, making it immediate and interesting. I like to shoot candid photos, capturing the moment and character of my subjects.
Crucially I’m a keen and passionate editor, stylising the shots and edits to make sure you get a beautiful collection of photos that are unique and compelling.
I’ll discuss your requirements with you, ensuring your vision for the style and feel of the shoot - as well as any particular shots that you want taken - are realised.
I will provide expert opinion and advice, and provide guidance on the logistics to ensure that I don’t get in your way! I’ve worked on a range of projects with a range of people - from actors like David Suchet to bands such as The Urban Voodoo Machine, DJs to writers - I shoot across the photographic gamut from architecture and interior design, to landscape, more formal portraiture, and even abstract. I do not shoot weddings.
My father taught me photography in the days of actual film, where I would help him develop his microscopic photography, developing negatives in the dark-room of the university he worked at. He and I have a running battle about digital vs physical manipulation of images, which I will win because I’m the executor of his will.
